I have not yet decided whether I want to continue this translation project. My translations thus far have actually been extremely close to Mr. Lin’s translations, and there might not be much point in pursuing my own version now that there’s a finished, published version out there. I have opened this page for comments.
I have not yet found a translation of the Dao De Jing (“Tao Te Ching”) to my complete satisfaction. They are often written either in poor English or with a confusing poetic twist that skews Laozi’s original meaning. Or both.
While every translation has its merits, a text like the DDJ is particularly difficult to understand if not translated correctly. I have begun the daunting task of writing my own translation. Through the help of all the translations before me, as well as the guide of many others, I hope the outcome of this project will be useful to many. This is a work of many months (or years!), so please bear with me. (06 Jan 2008)
